Travelling we come in touch with different realities. In order to avoid trouble, it is best to have a general idea of the rules governing pet ownership. Below are some suggestions, dictated by law and common sense, you should follow to make your holiday with your pet the most enjoyable possible. HELP ABANDONED AND WOUNDED ANIMAL
If you see an abandoned dog, you can be sure he/she will be hungry, thirsty, and longing to be cuddled. But do approach the animal carefully: if you immediately try to caress him/her, he/she might be frightened. If you are able to win his/her trust, after giving him/her food and drink, report the animal to the competent authorities, the municipal police and local veterinary services. The officer or veterinarian on duty will help you check if the dog has a microchip or a tattoo and whether he/she has been lost.If the animal has actually been abandoned, and is in danger or endangers other human beings, the competent local authority should bring him/her to the local dog pound operating within the national health service, while waiting to find a new family for him/her. In order to assist a wounded cat or dog, it is first of all necessary to act with care and attention, in order not to worsen the situation, since an animal in pain may have an emotional reaction. Always seek the help of another person. Speak calmly, in order not to perturb the animal, and give him/her the feeling that whoever is treating him/her is not a threat. If the competent local sanitary agency does not intervene, wherever you are in Italy, call the Yellow Pages Telephone Line, 892424, which answers 24/7, and ask for the details of the closest open veterinary centre. Once cats are treated, if no one wishes to adopt them, they must be reintroduced in the colony or area where they were found. To help an animal in distress is an act of civilization. It is good for the animal, but also for the one who does it. |
